DeFi, Devcon & Decentralization: November 2024

It’s been a busy month with new DeFi opportunities for AVAIL token holders, numerous activities at Devcon and an increase in the number of mainnet validators. Before we get into this month’s update, note that we’re just about to launch Avail After Hours, a series of game nights hosted by the Avail team with a live Q&A, so join the Avail community on X for more.

Highlights

Technical Update

  • A new version of the light client has been released in November and deployed to all the networks. This brings stability fixes, better dialing into the network and more.
  • Work has been ongoing to improve the client libraries for interacting with the Avail network, especially Avail Rust. As well as the associated documentation and examples. If you’re using our libraries, or plan on using them to interact with Avail, please provide feedback as this helps us improve them further!

Network Update

  • Transparency Report 7: Expanding the validator set to 62
  • Transparency Report 9: Further increasing the validator set to 72
  • Turing network active set reduced to 100 for performance optimization.
  • AIP 4: Mainnet Nomination Program Goes Live. Over 80 Applications Received; 21 Operators Accepted into the Program, Assisting Them in Being Selected for On-Chain Operations.

Events

Our team was all across Bangkok for Devcon, with founders Anurag and Prabal speaking at sub0, World Computer Day, Agg Summit, Rollup Day, among others. The Dev Rel and BD teams were out chatting with devs at Staking Summit, Agg Summit, and ETHGlobal Bangkok. The team loved speaking with the community and meeting lots of new people from all parts of the blockchain ecosystem.

DevRel Robin speaks with builders at Hackers Connect prior to the EthGlobal Bangkok hackathon.

BD reps Chandler and Rishi speak with folks during Agg Summit.

Anurag discusses fragmentation on stage during the Web3 Conf.

Oracle FC wins the Unification Asia Cup!

During Devcon, we hosted Avail's Unification Asia Cup, a community event for people to connect while playing football.

With 13 teams and nearly 100 people playing, the day was a lot of fun (even if it was a little hard for those who haven’t dusted off their boots in a while!). Oracle FC were the winners on the day with an impressive win in the Final.

We love hosting this event and plan to do it again in the future, so keep our eyes peeled for a unification cup near you! A huge thanks again to all the event organizers, sponsors and players.

During ETHGlobal Bangkok, Avail team members including Prabal, Robin, Naruto, Sandy and Chandler were on hand assisting devs working on the Avail and Avail/Cartesi tracks. Congrats to all the winners including:

  • DegenOS: 1st place, Best Cartesi x Avail Integration
  • AI United: 2nd place, Best Cartesi x Avail Integration

  • PrismX: 1st place, Best Arbitrum Orbit x Avail integration
  • Rollin'pool: 2nd place, Best Arbitrum Orbit x Avail integration
