AVAIL Token: Get Started

Avail is a modular blockchain network unifying the blockchain ecosystem, enabling a future where developers and users can work together to revolutionize industries, enhance financial independence, and foster equitable human collaboration on an open internet.

The AVAIL Token is the native utility token integral to the Avail ecosystem. It plays a key role in the overall system design and network architecture. Today, AVAIL secures the Avail network through staking and is used to access data availability services on Avail DA. You can learn more about the AVAIL token here.

In this post we’re going to cover:

Getting an Avail Wallet Set up

Wallets make it convenient and easy for you to use AVAIL tokens on the Avail network. If you don’t already have one, you will need to set up an AVAIL friendly wallet.

Avail is a permissionless blockchain network and anyone can set up and provide an Avail friendly wallet to AVAIL token holders. While new wallets will be added over time, here are some Avail friendly wallets you can choose from to get started.

It’s best to follow the specific set up instructions for your chosen wallet provider, however you can also review the creating and managing an Avail account guide in our docs.

Please note that different wallets can provide different security assurances. If you haven’t used a web3 wallet before it’s best to familiarize yourself with some industry best practices.

How to Stake on Avail

Staking AVAIL tokens contributes critical crypto-economic security to the Avail blockchain network protecting the networks of rollups building on top. Anyone can acquire AVAIL tokens and stake them to secure the Avail network and earn rewards.

The two main ways that AVAIL token holders stake on Avail are:

  1. Nomination Pools - This is a relatively straight forward ‘set it and forget it’ option allowing you to nominate your tokens to a nomination pool. The administrator of the nomination pool will then nominate tokens to validators on behalf of token holders for a fee.
  2. Direct Nomination - Instead of going via a nomination pool, direct nomination is when you nominate your tokens directly to validators. This gives you more control of where and how your tokens are being allocated and can enable you to avoid nomination pool fees. However, it does require more active participation in the network from you.

There are different tools you can use to stake your AVAIL tokens, including the official Avail Staking Dashboard which makes it really easy. To get started, check out this step-by-step AVAIL staking guide.

AVAIL Liquid Staking

Liquid staking is available to all AVAIL token holders. Liquid staking providers enable token holders to stake their AVAIL tokens in return for Liquid Staking Tokens (LST) that represent the staked amount. LST holders participate in securing the network through staking while maintaining the ability to use the LST for DeFi related use cases.

Liquid staking is available to AVAIL token holders via deq.fi. stAVAIL is an ERC20 token on Ethereum that represents staked Avail tokens. stAVAIL can be obtained by minting with AVAIL tokens on the Deq Protocol which operates on the Ethereum network. If you have AVAIL tokens on the Avail blockchain network, you will need to use the Avail bridge to move tokens to the Ethereum blockchain first.

How to bridge AVAIL between Avail and Ethereum

The Avail Bridge enables you to bridge AVAIL tokens between the Avail and Ethereum blockchain networks.

To use the Avail bridge you will need to have both an Avail wallet and an Ethereum wallet set up so that you can send tokens from one network and receive them on the other. The sending and receiving wallet address will be different for each network.

Bridging AVAIL tokens from Avail DA to Ethereum typically takes 1-2 hours to complete, you will know when it’s complete by monitoring the status in the transactions tab of the Avail bridge.

To get started, just follow this Avail bridging guide.

Note that the AVAIL token address on the Ethereum Network is:

Monitoring the Avail Blockchain

For an easy way to explore Avail’s on-chain activity you can use Avail’s blockchain explorer. With the explorer you can monitor and track transactions, data submissions, account activity, staking activity and a whole lot more.

Avail Ecosystem

Avail’s ecosystem has been expanding rapidly. 110+ partnerships were announced prior to the launch of Avail DA on Mainnet, and many more partners are continuing to be added. You can keep track of Avail’s recent developments on twitter and by checking out the Avail ecosystem webpage.

How to use Avail DA

Avail DA is live on mainnet and already being used by partners across the ecosystem to keep transaction data secure and available. There are many different ways to use Avail DA in custom and scalable blockchains.

How to Get AVAIL Tokens

To see where you can get AVAIL tokens, check CoinGecko for the most up to date list.

Please note that the Avail network is a standalone network and you will need an Avail friendly wallet to store and use your AVAIL tokens outside of the exchange.

AVAIL tokens can also be acquired through grants from the Avail foundation. You can follow us on X to be notified when grants are made available.
